RX 6900 XT breaks overclocking world record

Three days ago, the user OGS uploaded its 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme score with the flagship AMD card RX 6900 XT. This user was able to achieve an unbelievable 37618 marks by overclocking the 6900 XT to a record-breaking 3.3GHz.

Since the card is out, overclockers have been experimenting with the new card to break the overclocking record. As the famous overclocker Der8auer pointed out in a video, the RX 6000 GPUs have an artificial clock limiter that doesn’t let the graphics cards exceed 3.0GHz. So, we still have some more headroom to take the clock speeds to a new number if the limiter is removed.

The user OGS used Ryzen 9 5950X processor on the Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero motherboard and maintained a maximum temperature of 65°C, thanks to liquid nitrogen cooling. This record of 37618 marks is well above the user on the 2nd position by over 3000 points whereas the difference between the scores of the consecutive record-holders after OGS with the RX 6900 XT is hardly more than 1000 marks.

This is a big leap we have seen till now and no individual Nvidia card is currently able to achieve such scores, not even the RTX 3090. However, with dual RTX 3090s, the max marks achieved are 40112 which is again by OGS.
