The Best Motherboards for Ryzen 7 5800X in 2022

Motherboards for Ryzen 7 5800X

Ryzen 5000 processors blew away every processor including the Ryzen 3000 CPUs and Intel’s 10th gen core CPUs easily in gaming and multitasking((https://youtu.be/iZBIeM2zE-I)). Ryzen 5800X replaces the Ryzen 7 3800X from the last gen keeping the same amount of 8 cores and 16 threads but now with the Zen 3 architecture.

The processor uses a better core layout that reduces the latency between the cores and cache memory resulting in up to a 19% boost in performance in IPC and from the benchmarks obtained by various reviewers have shown that the Ryzen 5800X easily beats even the Core i9 10900K by a significant margin.

5800X features base/boost core clocks of 3.8GHz/4.7GHz and L3 cache memory of 32MB. It’s unlocked and its core clock can be overclocked using a compatible overclocking motherboard having these chipsets: B450, X470, B550, and X570. Consider the following list of top 4 motherboards that provide the best value for the buck among the whole X570 motherboard lineup.

Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro AC

Gigabyte B550M DS3H

B550 Aorus Pro AC is my favorite B550 chipset motherboard which I have recommended for many Ryzen processors that include Ryzen 5 5600X in different posts as has a distinguished design that doesn’t compromise with performance. The board has the same VRM as that of the B550 Aorus Elite but with better-grooved heatsinks for increased heat dissipation.

It has an Intersil ISL229004 Digital PWM controller with ISL6617A doublers making the 6+2 power stages 12+2 for better stability in overclocking. The VCore Mosfets used in it are capable of providing up to 50A of current which is enough for decent overclocking and handling high continuous current allowing the user to maximize the CPU potential.

The board, in my opinion, has a better distribution of PCI lanes from CPU and chipset than the more expensive B550 Aorus Master to support more components without decreasing bandwidth for the primary graphics card and M.2 SSD. It has 12x USB ports at the I/O including 2.0, 3.2, and Type C, and an inbuilt Intel Wifi 3168 adapter for wireless internet connectivity. You can also use a LAN cable to achieve high speeds on the internet through the Realtek 2.5GbE LAN which is not found on every B550 motherboard.

This motherboard doesn’t fall short even in additional features such as cooling which can be used effectively using the 8x Fan/Pump headers and has Debug LEDs beside the chipset for easy troubleshooting. This is a perfect sub $200 board that is really worth every penny for a 6 or even an 8-core processor.

ASUS TUF Gaming X570 Plus(Wifi)

ASUS TUF Gaming X570 Plus(Wifi)

X570 chipset has an upper hand over B550 in terms of compatibility with the components and there are several budget X570 boards that cost less than the mid-tier B550 motherboards. While the Aorus Pro AC costs around $180-$190, the Tuf Gaming X570 Plus Wifi has a price tag of $160.

I don’t think that it is more powerful than the Aorus Pro AC in overclocking but has several other competitive features that will allow you to build a powerful system for gaming and productivity without many compromises. Taking its overclocking capability into consideration, it features 12+2 power stage VRM and has SiC639 50A rated power stages for handling continuous high current.

It uses TUF-grade components for more reliability and has RGB lighting on the right edge of the PCB for aesthetics. There are 2x PCI-E x16 slots that support 2-way AMD CrossfireX and 2x M.2 sockets for fast SSDs. The DIMMs on it can support very highly overclocked memories which, fortunately, most of the motherboards on this list support and shouldn’t be a concern for the users but the I/O on it doesn’t have a lot of USB ports but is still sufficient for connecting almost all of the basic peripherals together like a mouse, keyboard, headset, webcam, additional peripherals, etc.

The board also comes with an inbuilt Wifi adapter and has Asus Q-LED for basic troubleshooting.

MSI MEG X570 Unify

CHECK AMAZON PRICE

MSI MEG X570 Unify can be called as the best value board for money as it boasts features that are not commonly found on many sub $300 boards. The board has very handy troubleshooting features for enthusiast overclockers like Debug Code LED at the bottom, EZ Debug LEDs at the right-top, and Power/Rest buttons for quick fixes.

The I/O hosts a Clear CMOS button for resetting the Bios and a Flash Bios button to upgrade to a newer version. There are 8x USB ports in total including a Type C and a PS/2 port for a traditional keyboard/mouse. For internet connectivity, you will get a 2.5G Realtek LAN and the latest Intel wifi 6 adapter for high-speed internet that supports speed up to 2.4Gbps.

Coming to the most important feature which is overclocking, it provides a solid 12+2 power phase VRM with IR3555 60A power stages for handling higher currents. Over the VRM are grooved heatsinks for easy airflow and similarly, all of the M.2 connectors use aluminum heatsinks for cooler operation. The only CON in it is that there are only 4x SATA ports compared to 6 and 8 on the other boards listed here but most of the users end up using more SSDs than hard drives these days.

ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming

ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming

Asus doesn’t disappoint in producing strong overclocking motherboards and for unlocking the full potential of 3800X, all you need is X570-E Gaming which is packed with powerful features for building a high-end gaming and productivity system.

The board uses 16 power stages using the doubling method with the IR3555 60A power stages which are capable of handling strong overclocking easily. The heatsink is also decent and over it is an I/O cover with ROG and STRIX RGB logo for illuminating your chassis from inside. The board has 3x PCI-E x16 slots out of which two are the latest PCI-E gen 4.0 which is a distinguishable feature of X570 boards whereas the second PCI-E 4.0 is controlled by the X570 chipset which is not in the case of B550 chipset boards.

You can run two Nvidia graphics cards in SLI and up to three AMD graphics cards in CrossfireX although the support of these technologies in newer graphics cards especially the Nvidia RTX 3000 series has been dropped except for the RTX 3090 and there is no need for it currently((https://www.tomshardware.com/news/the-end-of-sli-as-we-know-it-nvidia-reveals-new-model)).

At the I/O you will find 7x USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and a USB 3.2 Type C port for peripherals. To connect to the internet wirelessly, Asus has equipped it with Intel Wifi 6 and it also supports Bluetooth 5.0. For reducing the input lag you can also use the Intel Gigabit 2.5G LAN and for updating the Bios, there is a small BIOS Flashback button that can come in handy.

For troubleshooting, it has Asus Q-Code and Asus Q-LED but unfortunately, no onboard buttons which I believe is one of the most important things for an overclocking motherboard like this costing close to $400 but if you can manage the functionality without that, then this is by far the best board for overclocking in this list.
