AMD Radeon RX 9070 to Get 13.5% Cut in Shaders but Both GPUs to Bring PCI-E 5.0 Interface Unlike Previously Rumored

The Radeon RX 9070 GPUs could be launched anytime since we are seeing the GPUs in various retail stores currently in stock. When AMD lifts the embargo, its board partners and official distributors will send the GPUs to their retailers. Meanwhile, we are still at a point where there is no 100% confirmation about the actual retail launch, let alone specifications.

We did report about the RDNA 4 GPUs a couple of times in recent weeks, but the recent rumors have been suggesting things quite differently. However, a recent leak by @momomo_us has suggested some changes in the specifications. Apparently, neither the RX 9070 XT nor the RX 9070 GPUs will feature the PCI-E 4.0 interface but will get the PCI-E 5.0 interface. Also, the shaders on the non-XT are likely equal to the RX 9070 XT.

RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 specs leak

Some rumors suggested that both the cards will have 4096 Stream Processors but as per the @momomo_us, the RX 9070 will have a cut-down SP count to 3584 shaders. The base and boost clocks of the RX 9070 XT are supposedly 2400 MHz and 2970 MHz respectively and for the RX 9070, these are 2070 MHz and 2520 MHz respectively. These are probably for the reference editions and we have heard that the AIB premium cards can go up to 3.1 GHz on the RX 9070 XT.

Both GPUs will feature 16GB GDDR6 memory clocked at 20 Gbps and will have a 256-bit memory bus. This looks accurate since many AIB cards have revealed these specifications. With this memory configuration, the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 cards will feature around 640 GB/s. The only stuff we want to know is when these cards will actually be revealed.

Recent leaks suggested that AMD will unveil them on 22nd January and the official retail launch will be on 24th. If this is true, we have almost a week left before we can see the GPUs in action. It’s estimated that the RX 9070 XT will target RTX 4070 Ti Super performance and will be quite strong in Ray Tracing. As for the RX 9070, we can expect RTX 4070 Super-equivalent performance. This is based on various performance leaks we have reported recently.
