Four Best Laptop Ryzen 6000 Series Processors

AMD Ryzen 6000 series mobile processors-based laptops have already hit the market, and they offer a decent performance uplift over the previous generations.

These processors deliver somewhere around a 5-10% performance increase over the Ryzen 5000 mobile APUs which although aren’t significant but are noticeable improvements nonetheless.

Currently, the Ryzen 6000 mobile processors consist of a total of Ten chips and each has its own strengths and limitations. These are as follows:-

Out of these ten processors, I believe that the following four processors will deliver the best performance in their respective Ryzen 5, 7, and 9 families. Do consider that I am not taking the price into account as we still need to wait for more laptops to hit the market and all the opinions are based on the specs.

Best Ryzen 6000 Mobile Processors

Ryzen 5 6600H

Ryzen 5 6600H is the third processor in the Ryzen 5 family and it boasts a decent 6 cores/12 threads configuration. The base clock speed is 3.3GHz which is the same as that of the Ryzen 5 5600H, however, the boost clock speed features a 300MHz increase going from 4.2GHz up to 4.5GHz.

This alone should provide better performance in CPU-intensive applications and will process things faster. It comes with a Radeon 660M graphics that is based on the RDNA 2 architecture, unlike the Ryzen 5600H which uses the older Vega graphics.

Although the number of cores in Ryzen 5600H is higher i.e., 7 vs 6 on the 6600H, the latter is far superior in gaming performance according to numerous reports and leaks. Also, there is a 100MHz increase in the GPU clock and an increased TDP of 45W that makes it stand above the 5600H as well as the Ryzen 6600U and 6600HS.

However, this chip is not capable of overclocking.

Ryzen 7 6800H

In front of Ryzen 5800H, we have the Ryzen 7 6800H and the specs difference is very similar to what we saw in the 6600H vs 5600H. However, there are some major differences too that will take its performance much higher than the 5800H and the 6600H.

It has got 8 cores and 16 threads with a base/boost clock of 3.2/4.7GHz and is built on TSMC’s 6nm process node compared to the TSMC 7nm. That’s why it is a bit more power-efficient if we compare its TDP to the TDP of Ryzen 5800H i.e., 45W vs 54W(Max).

It also supports higher frequency on DDR5 memory modules and supports PCI-E 4.0 natively. Now coming to its graphics unit, it features an RDNA 2-based RX 680M graphics chip that features a core count of 12 which is 4 cores more than the Ryzen 5800H. Not only that but the graphics clock speed is 200MHz higher and it makes it better than most budget GPUs out there.

Ryzen 9 6900HX

Coming to the Ryzen 9 family, we have an amazing processor that is very high-end and can possibly do any CPU-intensive task while being good at gaming just like any good budget graphics card. The 6900HX is the successor to the Ryzen 9 5900HX but has a faster boost clock speed sitting at 300MHz higher than the latter and comes with Radeon 680M GPU.

The 680M GPU on it is the same as on the Ryzen 6800H and it is capable of playing most games at 1080p high settings. In one leak we saw it outperformed the GTX 1050 Ti and scored 2700+ score in Time Spy which is impressive enough for an iGPU.

Not only that but the 6900HX is actually overclockable and you can even optimize the performance using Ryzen Controller.

Ryzen 9 6980HX

The flagship chip in the Ryzen 9 family is the Ryzen 9 6980HX which features almost the same spec as that of 6900HX but the boost clock is 100MHz higher. It is 200MHz faster in boost clock compared to the Ryzen 9 5980HX but uses a little less power.

Although it is overclockable, it is very close in performance to the 6900HX theoretically. It features Radeon 680M graphics with a core clock of 2.4GHz which is impressive and will deliver around 60 fps at 1080p resolution. The only deciding factor between the 6900HX and 6980HX will be the cost. If the price gap is significant, I will recommend going with the Ryzen 6900HX.
