It’s certainly not the best era of graphics cards because new-gen cards are overpriced and need a drastic price cut to make sense.
Still, PC building will continue as PC enthusiasts want the best of all time. The Ryzen 7800X3D is no exception to this and its owners know that this is the CPU that can unlock the full potential of any high-end GPU and deliver the fastest gaming performance.
Considering that the 7800X3D is meant for enthusiast level of gaming, I would certainly not go below $500 to buy a GPU for a 7800X3D build as then it would probably be unfair for this processor(Unless you aim for 1080p gaming, which is still quite unreasonable).

Ryzen 7 7800X3D Overview
Ryzen 7 7800X3D is based on the latest Zen 4 architecture and uses the TSMC’s 5nm process node. It succeeds the 7nm based Ryzen 7 5800X3D and takes the crown for being the best gaming processor irrespective of price.
The chip features 8 cores and 16 threads clocked at 4.2-5.0GHz. The CPU is, however, locked for overclocking due to a few reasons(mainly due to high thermals) and features an additional L3 cache(32+64MB=96MB) on top of the CCD that hosts 8 cores.
It is rated at 120W but usually consumes half the power delivering the best gaming performance. On top of that it also comes with an iGPU with 2 cores clocked at 2200MHz for those who are looking for utilizing its iGPU for basic purposes.
Things to Consider Before Buying a GPU
Before you proceed to buy any GPU, it’s important to understand how the CPU-GPU combo works. Otherwise, a wrong choice will not only waste your money but can also result in performance issues that can’t be fixed.
Have Enough VRAM
This particular issue is very much popular these days. Some GPUs like the RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti come with 8GB of VRAM on a 128-bit bus. Going with any of these is simply nonsensical.
If you are buying a GPU for 1080p gaming, you must buy a GPU with at least 8-12GB VRAM unless you are not going to play modern AAA titles. If you are going to game at 1440p or higher, you must have 12GB or higher VRAM.
This is why I have not listed some Nvidia GPUs that come with low VRAM because they would cause frequent stutters and possibly crashes in some games.
Always Compare the GPUs
Many GPUs are in the same price zone but are too different in specs and possibly in performance. Youtube is free, so make sure to compare the performance of two GPUs if they are in the same price range($50-$100 price difference).
Your preference should go with the GPU that hosts more VRAM if their performance is similar.
Have a Reliable Power Supply
This is a no-brainer. If you don’t want your system dead by faulty currents or voltages, invest in a good power supply. For a build using 7800X3D and a high-end GPU costing $500+, I wouldn’t recommend less than 80 Plus Gold rated power supply and a wattage of less than 600W.

The Radeon RX 6800 XT defines the best gaming performance at 1440p resolution for less than $550. The card was originally launched for a higher price but as it has been a few years since its launch, the pricing has come down greatly.
The card features a good 16GB of GDDR6 VRAM which is, of course, the most important thing nowadays as it helps to put the textures on the highest settings on higher resolutions. Except for the AV1 encode, there is no major CON I see in this card as it can max out most games at 1440p with way over 60+ fps and this is what you would want if you need something that is close to the price of your CPU.
AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT

The RX 6950 XT is currently one of the best-value cards if not the best-value card of all. This is because since AMD launched its RX 7000 series, the price of 6950 XT has dropped drastically making it available for as low as $629-$649.
The card is way better than the 6800 XT in performance and we are talking at least 20% performance increase on average here. The 6950 XT brings 11% more SPs than the 6800 XT and has an even higher memory bandwidth of 576GB/s compared to the 512GB/s of the 6800 XT.
This gives it a little advantage in memory-intensive areas and of course, with 16GB of VRAM, you are good to go even in games like Hogwarts Legacy.
Nvidia Geforce RTX 4070

RTX 4070 is the 4th release in the Ada lineup and is certainly not the best GPU for high-end builds due to only one reason, which is the low VRAM. The card comes with 12GB of GDDR6 memory which although is sufficient for maxing out games at 1440p resolution but at 4K, it starts to bottleneck.
At some point in time in the future, this might cause an issue but till you are satisfied with 1440p gaming, 12GB is pretty fine. The card is 15-20% slower than the 6950 XT for the same price but outperforms the latter in almost every Ray Tracing scenario. It also comes with AV1 encoding support and has a fantastic power efficiency with 66% lower power consumption compared to the 6950 XT.
These are some of the reasons why the 4070 is still a decent card for high-end gaming and would probably be one of the ideal choices for Ryzen 7800X3D.

The RTX 4070 Ti is a good step up over the non-Ti edition and brings fairly a good amount of high-end specs like 7680 Cuda Cores compared to 5888 on the 4070 and also higher boost clock speeds. The only drawback here is the 12GB VRAM which honestly sucks for a $800 card but this is what it is.
It gives roughly 20% higher performance on average in modern titles over the 4070 and is also more capable in Ray Tracing due to having more RT cores.
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is currently the flagship model from AMD in the RDNA 3 lineup and is comparable to the performance of an RTX 4080. It is roughly at the same level as 4080 but costs $200 less according to the official pricing.
The only drawback here is the higher power consumption which easily reaches 350 watts whereas the 4080 stays at almost 100W. Not to mention that the 4080 is also ahead in Ray Tracing performance but the gap between these cards isn’t as huge as we see between the RTX 4070 and RX 6950 XT.
This makes the 7900 XTX a decent choice for 4K gaming builds especially because the card features 8GB more VRAM(24GB total) which will be very beneficial for 4K gaming in the future.

Last, but not least, the 4090 is the current fastest graphics card you can buy. Perhaps it is the only 40 series card from Nvidia that makes sense because of its specs.
Even though it costs a whopping $1600, it comes with a decent amount of VRAM(24GB) which makes it perfect for 4K gaming and even for Ray Tracing.
It is straight 20% ahead of the 7900 XTX and crushes the former in Ray Tracing performance. Specs-wise, it features a whopping 16384 Cuda Cores and a 384-bit memory bus which is very much needed for fast data transfer.
