Razer Deathadder Elite Gaming Mouse Review

Razer’s DeathAdder mice are very famous among gamers who play fps games. There are several versions of Deathadder and this one is the latest with the extra word “ELITE”. It’s almost similar to the last version which was “CHROMA”  but there are now two additional buttons for DPI settings below the scroll wheel. The price is $55 at which Razer promises to provide the best experience in Esports games. Let’s check it if it’s really worth your 50 bucks.

From above it looks exactly like the Deathadder Chroma, a previous version but with the exception of two DPI buttons. These are really PRO because now every mouse comes with these buttons for changing the sensitivity easily. The other small difference is the scroll wheel design. This one has a better-textured scroll wheel for more friction.  Other than that there isn’t any difference which you can see.  The design and the material quality, all are the same.

The material quality is not very good. It’s just fine, but it doesn’t justify its price of $55. As its competitors like the Rival 300 have a better build, it lags behind in durability. Many customers have complained that it died after a few months of use but for some, it has flawlessly worked for more than a year. So, it varies from person to person. It’s not common that it dies but it’s more frequent than its competitors. Razer Deathadder Elite 2

On the left side, it has two Thumb buttons that are large and easy to reach with the thumb. They are good in clicks. They don’t require any great pressure and the left/right clicks are even softer. They feel very comfortable and are lighter than the Scroll wheel click.

The mouse features textured rubber pads on both sides for better grip and the finger placement is comfortable. The control on this mouse is really good and you can use CLAW/ FingerTIP/ Palm Grip on it. I personally use FingerTIP as I have large hands and it’s fully under control in that grip. As the mouse is medium-sized, it’s perfect for medium-sized hands as well as large hands.

The weight of this mouse is only 105 Grams. So, it feels very light. I wasn’t expecting that from a mouse like this. It should be a little heavier. That’s why it feels a little bit cheap for its price if you can understand what I mean.

There is no customizable weight feature at the bottom so you have to use it as it is. This is a CON for sure. Although a lightweight mouse is not bad for fps games, using a heavier mouse like G502 from Logitech, or M65 Pro from Corsair makes it feel a little uncomfortable when used the first time. Now I am used to it but it doesn’t mean that it’s fine. Razer should do something about its weight customization. Razer Deathadder Elite 5

The wire is a braided cable that is 7 feet long. It’s really useful for connecting to your CPU if you are far away from your RIG. Almost every good mouse comes with this type of cable but it doesn’t come with a traditional strap. The strap is lockable and it takes time and some more effort to tie the extra cable together. The USB connector is gold plated and matches the green color from the inside to the official theme color of Razer.

As I said previously, there is no room for customizing weights. So, the only thing left is the light and other customizable features. The lighting, color, and performance of this mouse can be customized through software called “SYNAPSE”.

There are two light zones in the mouse: One is the Scroll wheel and one is the Razer Logo which is easily observable when compared to the scroll wheel light. The light distribution is uniform and the brightness is up to expectation. Even in proper lighting, it looks good and fairly the lighting of this mouse is what one needs.

SYNAPSE

Synapse 1

Synapse is one of the best software for customizing the mouse work. I have used SteelSeries, Logitech, and Corsair software for customizing my mice and this one is just as good as the others. There are a lot of tabs for different functions but first, you need to make an account on Razer and log in before using this software. It takes time and you cannot use the features of your mouse without this software. You will be automatically logged In once you start up your system after the first time you sign in. You can remap your buttons if you want and save the profile.

Synapse 2

In the Performance Tab, you can set up the sensitivity of your mouse. You can setup up to 5 stages for DPI settings and assign a different value to each stage. I have used 500-3500 for my daily use. I use 500 DPI for CSGO and FPS games while I use 1000-1500 for my work. After setting up the values you need to SAVE and then start using this feature with the DPI buttons provided on the mouse. You can assign the value of the stages up to 16000 DPI which is too large and nobody uses for gaming or work. Synapse 3

The next Tab is for LIGHTING. Here you can change the effects to Breathing, Spectrum, Static, etc. or you can set up the colors for each effect. The brightness slider is just below it and you can save these settings in your desired profile.  Synapse 4

The 4th Tab is CALIBRATION, in which you can configure your mouse according to your mouse PAD. It’s specially designed for Razer Mats and if you don’t have one then don’t worry, you can customize it for whatever Mat you have. There is a slider for Liftoff Range which is among the best features of this mouse in which you can set a particular value for your mouse which will determine the working of your mouse sensor above the ground. I use for gaming as I need to frequently lift the mouse in CSGO.
