Ryzen 7 9800X3D Faces Shortages, Sells Around 5000 Units in a Single Week from Mindfactory
From a significantly small CPU share in the market to almost taking over the client CPU market completely, AMD is not leaving anything for Intel, at least in some parts of Europe. Mindfactory, which is one of the biggest retailers in Germany and Europe is seeing a big surge in Ryzen 7 9800X3D sales, which shows how popular the new AMD product is.
Since its launch, the Ryzen 9800X3D remained among the top 3 best-selling CPUs in almost all stores in various parts of the world. Even with a hefty price tag of $479, the 9800X3D is outselling the complete Arrow Lake lineup in various stores. It’s been worse for Intel on Mindfactory, where the combined sales for the Intel Arrow Lake processors are just 20 in the last week. Even with all the Intel CPU sales combined, the total Intel CPU sales were just 425, which is significantly lower than 4830 units of Ryzen 7 9800X3D sold (via @TechEpiphanyYT).
AMD is now sitting at around 95% of total CPU shipments as per the latest data from Mindfactory. Considering that the Ryzen 9800X3D sold nearly 5000 units from a single store, the total global sales must be pretty high. This has led to the shortages of the chip but AMD has also indirectly blamed Intel for this. With the absence of competition, AMD is left alone at the top with Ryzen 9800X3D, 7800X3D, and several X3D and non-X3D chips from the last two or three generations.
AMD’s Executive, Frank Azor said,
We knew we built a great part. We didn’t know the competitor [Intel] had built a horrible one,
So the demand has been a little higher than we forecasted.
It’s surely one of the reasons why AMD now leads with around 97.03% of total revenue on Mindfactory as per last week’s stats and AM5 has alone grabbed a share of nearly 80%. AMD has been able to maintain the top CPU positions on various retail stores for a while and it looks like Intel doesn’t have a choice except to wait for a newer generation, which will still take time and doesn’t guarantee the performance uplifts we all have been waiting for.
Hopefully, Intel can make a comeback, so we can see fierce competition once again, which is best for the customers at the end of the day.
