Lenovo Legion Go S is Reportedly Boasting a “Quad-Core” Chip, Leaked Specs Show Ryzen Z2 “Go” and RDNA 2 Graphics

Something doesn't add up

The leak about the specifications of the Legion Go S doesn’t seem to add up but if it really boasts four cores, it can’t go against modern budget gaming handhelds let alone higher-end models.

Legion Go S Leaked Specs Reveal a Zen 3-based “Four Core” CPU and Radeon 800M Graphics

Lenovo is reportedly preparing a few variants of the next-gen Legion Go handheld consoles. We have heard about its Legion Go S recently that is aimed at the budget segment and won’t be competing with the likes of ROG Ally X or the upcoming MSI Claw 8 AI+ but will instead go against previous-gen handhelds like Steam Deck at a competitive price.

Unlike previously rumored, it appears that the Legion Go S might not boast an 8-core/16-thread APU but a 4-core/8-thread chip. Videocardz reports the latest info on the Legion Go S, including specs and some renders of the Legion Go S white handheld, which will boast the Windows 11 operating system. There is another Legion Go S but with a grey theme and will run the Steam OS.

Nonetheless, what’s crucial is the information contained inside what looks like Lenovo’s marketing text for the Legion Go S. The description lists that the Legion Go S uses AMD’s ‘exclusive’ Ryzen Z2 Go processor, which is based on the Zen 3 architecture. However, it is supposedly a four-core CPU with hyperthreading. If that’s true, then it’s competitive with the Steam Deck’s Zen 2-based 4-core/8-thread custom APU.

This conflicts with the already available information that says the Legion Go S will feature an 8-core/16-thread APU. I don’t think the marketing material has a typo but it’s possible as nothing is official yet. As for the GPU, the APU will bring RDNA 2-based Radeon 800M graphics. Other revealed features include the availability of dual USB4 ports and Legion TrueStrike controllers and triggers.

As of now, we know that Lenovo is preparing two or three Legion Go successors, including Legion Go 2, Legion Go S with Windows, and Legion Go S with Steam OS. The Legion Go 2 will be a much more advanced console, featuring the Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU with a more powerful configuration. Legion Go S, on the other hand, will feature 16GB LPDDR5X memory with 512GB storage. The report says that the console will also have another 32GB/1TB configuration.
