AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Delivers Just 2% Performance Uplift Over RX 7900 GRE, To be Unveiled at CES 2025 Alongside FSR 4

Radeon RX 9070 XT got benchmarked in Time Spy

We will be seeing three different AMD products at CES together. These are the AMD’s RDNA 4 GPUs, AMD FSR 4, and the high-end AMD Ryzen 9 9000X3D chips. Finally, we also have the RX 9070 XT render and its latest benchmarks, showing its position in the GPU hierarchy.

Radeon RX 9070 XT Barely Beats the RX 7900 GRE as per the Leaked Time Spy test and shows RTX 4070 Ti-equivalent performance

The Radeon RX 9070 XT, which I recently reported about yesterday was once again seen in various leaks, including a render and a benchmark. This RDNA 4 GPU is rumored to deliver performance higher than the RX 7900 GRE and lower than the RX 7900 XT, which now seems to be true but there is a small catch.

RX 9070 XT vs other GPUs in Time Spy

The problem is that the GPU isn’t in the middle of these two cards but is actually quite close to the RX 7900 GRE to the point that it can be considered its equivalent. However, it’s based on a synthetic test called Time Spy, which doesn’t translate accurately to gaming performance. It does give us a rough idea of where to put the RX 9070 XT in the list but it’s hard to say that the RX 9070 XT is a great performer.

Comparing it to the RTX 4070 GPUs, it showed equivalent performance to the RTX 4070 Ti, which is considerably faster than the RX 7900 GRE, which is why you should take these numbers with a grain of salt. One leaker (@All_The_Watts) has shared its actual numbers from the Time Spy, revealing 22,894 points as the graphics score. Therefore, it’s safe to say that the RX 9070 XT is barely faster than the RX 7900 GRE (Approximately 2%), which scored 22386 points in the same test.

If that’s its performance, then the $600-$649 price point isn’t going to cut it. A price tag of around $500 will be more suitable but keep in mind that the rumored pricing isn’t final and we will have to wait for more reliable leaks to calculate its value. AMD is reportedly launching the RX 9070 XT and possibly its non-XT version as well at CES 2025 alongside the FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.

RX 9070 XT release leak

This report comes from the popular leaker Hoang Anh Phu, who has been on point with his leaks regarding product launches. Be ready to see the Zen 5-based Ryzen 9950X3D and 9900X3D chips alongside these products in the same event.

Finally, what seemed like a next-generation AMD GPU aka Radeon RX 9070 XT, the leaker has confirmed that it is indeed the RDNA 4 GPU, which AMD teased in the marketing infographic. It’s a big triple-fan card and is likely the reference design. Let’s hope AMD prices the RX 9070 XT and 9070 GPUs well to compete with the next-gen NVIDIA’s Blackwell gaming cards.
